Federal Member for Berowra Julian Leeser MP has spoken out against the latest push by The Greens to change the date of Australia Day.

“It’s profoundly disappointing that in the lead up to Australia Day, The Greens have once again chosen to undermine the celebrations with their poorly advised activist campaign to change the date,” Mr Leeser said.

“Consistent polling shows Australians overwhelmingly view 26 January as a suitable date. The Greens also ignore the fact that 26 January is the most popular day on which we welcome new citizens.”

“This date is an important part of both our heritage and our future. The Greens ignore the diverse ways in which we celebrate Australia’s indigenous heritage, British foundation and multicultural character.”

“We should not be ashamed of Australia Day. We should remain proud. That pride should never be diminished by The Greens for their selfish political purposes.”

Julian Leeser MP will spend Australia Day out and about in the electorate, including time with the Lions Club of Hornsby for their BBQ and Concert.

“I am proud of Australia Day: it’s a day to celebrate the achievements of our country and be grateful for the privilege of being an Australian citizen,” Mr Leeser said.

“I want to wish all readers of The Bush Telegraph a very Happy Australia Day!”
