Cherrybrook Scout Hall was vandalised in Mid-March. The front of the hall has been defaced by vandals who painted expletives across the walls. This has happened just weeks after the announcement that the Federal Government would be funding new CCTV for the Scout Hall through the Safer Communities programme.

In the first week of March, Federal Member for Berowra, Julian Leeser, presented an $8,000 cheque to Cherrybrook Scouts for the new CCTV cameras to increase the security of the local community scout hall.

Julian Leeser MP said, “I’m outraged that in peaceful Cherrybrook, communal property like the scout hall would be targeted by vandals. Less than a month ago I provided a grant for CCTV for the scout hall to prevent such vandalism from occurring. It’s sad that we live in a time that CCTV cameras on a scout hall are necessary but hopefully this will prevent further vandalism and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

“I am extremely frustrated that our young members have to see this sort of destruction of property and profanity written on the scout hall. The funding is timely and will hopefully go a long way to enabling us to put in the equipment needed to increase the security and identify perpetrators,” said Stephen Hunt, Cherrybrook Scout Group – Leader in Charge.
